Their mission isclear that they seek to improve the lifestyles of the disadvantagedin the society. The non-profit organizations offer support to thesedisadvantaged people in the society hence changing their lives. It isalso vital to point out that the nonprofits have also createdemployment to the historical American society. It is evident that therate of employment in the nonprofit sector was as low as 1% in the1990s, but that figure has risen to over 3% (Budrys, 2013). This isan indication that the nonprofits have both offered support to thedisadvantaged and provided a source of income to numerous people.

Itis evident that the environment in which the nonprofits operated inthe past has changed drastically. This is in terms of demographics,technology, social and economic states. For instance, with the advanced levels of technology, thenonprofits have an opportunity to reach more people in a short andconvenience manner as opposed to how they used to operate before(Budrys, 2013). The economic status has also been changing overtimeand donors and supporters continue to reduce or offer little support.As a consequence, nonprofit organizations are finding it hard toreach more disadvantaged people in the society. However, in this 21stcentury, the nonprofit organizations still continue to offer jobopportunities to the thousands of Americans. The nonprofits mustenvision offering services to more people due to the increased numberof needy people in society. The nonprofits must also offerdevelopmental support to the government of the United States. Thiscan be achieved through provision of information on the needs of thepeople on the ground. The 21stcentury NPOs must also be the voice of the people in the society(Budrys, 2013). In other words, besides providing goods and servicesto the needy people, the nonprofits must be their voice to thegovernment. The voice of the people might be opinions to policymakers, which might be influential in the policies that thegovernment adopts.

Thenonprofits operate in an environment that is competitive both fromother nonprofits and from for profit organizations. They must competeto remain relevant and credible in the society. From the economicaspect, the nonprofits must compete for funding from donors,government and other stakeholders. The nonprofits are operating at atime that the resources and the economy are on a downward trend. Thismeans only one thing, that the nonprofit organizations’ managementmust utilize the resources available efficiently while keeping themission and the philosophy of the organization in mind (Renz,2011).The community is ripe with expectations from the nonprofitorganizations for them to deliver on their missions. In other words,the support and the space that the nonprofit organizations receivefrom the public, depends on the distinctiveness of their roles in thesociety.

Thenonprofits operate in a legal context that is distinct or differentfrom other for profit organizations. The nonprofits receive specialtreat in the legal context such exempt from tax. However, it is vitalto note that the nonprofits must adhere to certain rules andregulations. For instance, for an organization to qualify as anonprofit organization in the United States, it must be engagingitself in charitable activities and social activities that supportthe disadvantaged in the society (Renz,2011).This is the generally accepted legal context of NPOs across theworld. However, it is vital to note that these laws are subject tospecific countries and might change according to country. On thepolitical environment of the nonprofits, it is evident from thecourse materials and research that NPOs comprise of numerousstakeholders who give opinions and expectations. As a response, the managementnonprofits must be accountable and deliver on the expectations of thestakeholders. The nonprofits also face the challenge of financing. Itis evident from research that the number of donors and financier hasgone down drastically (Renz,2011).Therefore, the nonprofits must work and operate with the littlefinances they have in a bid to achieve their mission. The nonprofitsare also facing stiff competition from the other nonprofits and forprofit organizations credibility and opportunities to provide goodsand services. This calls for strategic management from the nonprofitsto be able to thrive effectively in the competitive market. Lastly,the nonprofits are facing the challenge of the evolving technologyand social media (Renz,2011).The stakeholders are demanding the nonprofits to adopt the technologyin its communication and responsiveness. It is evident that thenonprofits can adopt the technology, which might be of significantimportance towards the management of the organizations.

It is vital to point out that the directors and theexecutive are not involved in the day to day running of theorganization. It is, however, critical to note that a member of theboard may choose to be involved the running and management of acertain sector of the organization. Such involvements in themanagement of the organization are, however, temporary.
