TheAmerican dreamis thenationalphilosophyof theUnited States, whichdefines freedomby includingprospectsof success,prosperityandupwardsocialmobility,through hardwork.Thedreamis based on thepremonitionthat lifeshould be betterandricherto allAmericans accordingto individuals’achievementorability,andindependentof socials classorbirthcircumstances,suchas racialaffiliations.Thisdefinitionof theAmerican dreamby James Truslow, incorporatesidealsof equality,freedomandopportunitiesthat are independentof socialbackgroundsand/or birthcircumstances,and which should be enjoyedby allAmericans (Hanson andWhite 18). Thoughthedreamis yet to be achievedin some aspects,itis stillaliveandachievablesince itis not mythical.Thispaperexemplifieslikelihoodsof achievingtheAmerican dreamas envisioned by Americanfoundingfathers.

TheAmerican dreamseeksequalityof allpeople,despite theindividual’ssocialclassorcircumstancesof birth,suchas race.Thisis furtherrooted in theAmerican declarationof Independence, which assertsthatallpeopleequalas envisagedby their creator.TheconstitutionrecognizesallAmericans as equals,denouncingandcriminalizing discriminationsbased on socialclassesorbirthcircumstances.Demonization of socialandracialdiscriminationhas createdan equaltable,from which allAmericans enjoytheir rightsandfreedomdespite their predicaments.Theconstitutionhas furthercriminalized allformsof slavery,enablingallpeopleto endeavorachievementof theAmerican dreamfreely.Thepillarsof theconstitution,freedomto allandtherecognitionof citizens’equalityare vitalin ensuringtheachievementof theAmerican dream(Rivers 56).

Successenvisioned by theAmerican dreamincludespersonalfreedom,andeconomicfreedom.Personalfreedomis guaranteedin theAmerican constitution,butindividualsmust workhardto attaintheir owneconomicfreedom.Economicfreedomconstituteseconomicfreedom,economicadequacy,economicaccess,economicability,as wellas economicstability.Economiclibertyis therightto freelaboras opposedto slaverywhereaseconomicaccessrefersto economicdynamism, through which wealthis created,with fullaccessto allresourcesas providedby thestate.Conversely,economicadequacyis thesufficiencyof thegeneratedwageorsalaryto supportan individual,whereaseconomicsecurityrefersto measurestakenby thegovernmentto ensuresupportin caseof economicdisruptions,suchas inflation(Hanson andWhite 43).TheU.S Government, through thevariousarms,continuesto supporteconomicfreedomamong all citizens, ensuringtheir liberty,accessto resources,promotes economicadequacyby settingtheminimumwageratesandtakesmeasuresto protectthecitizensagainst thenegativeimpactsof economicdisruptions(Hanson andWhite 48).

Prosperityenvisioned in theAmerican dreamis onlyachievablethrough adequatefinancialknowledgeandcreationof financialopportunities,wherecitizenscan choosetheir desiredemployer.The government,through variouslearninginstitutions,has continuallyprovidedfinancialknowledgeto thecitizens,enablingthem attainfinancialfreedom.Additionally, thegovernment,in partnershipwith theprivatesector,has createdseveralemploymentopportunities,from whereindividualscan choosedesiredemployment.To ensurefinancialliberty,thegovernmenthas setminimumwageratebelow which noemployeecan be paid,therebypreventingfinancialslavery.In theseemploymentopportunities,remunerations are based on effortsputby employees(Rivers 63). Thisensuresthatindividuals’effortsandachievementsformthebaseforremunerationandnot socialclassesorbirthcircumstances.Theadoptionof capitalism,has ensuredthatthehardworkingindividualsare compensatedfortheir efforts,therebyassistingin achievementof theAmerican dream,which postulatesthatcitizens’livesshould be betterandricherbased on theindividual’sachievementorability,andindependentof socials classorbirthcircumstances(Rivers 209).

Toattaintheenvisioned happy,richerandbetterlives,Americans should upholdthecapitalist economy,which rewards thehardworking citizensbased on effortsandachievement.Theyshould endeavorbecomingownersof business,through investing, ratherthan remainingas mereconsumers(Hanson andWhite 79). Citizens should striveto attainrelevantfinancialeducationthat is vitalin attainingfinancialfreedom.Aftergettingfinancialeducation,citizensshould involvethemselves in incomegenerating activities,wheretheyshould worksmartto earnmoreincome,which theyshould investwiselyto achievetheAmerican dreamof attainingsuccess,prosperityandupwardsocialmobility.Since successdoesnot involveonlyfinancialfreedom,individualsshould definetheir ownsuccesses,which theyshould striveto achievereflectingon personalvalues,strengthsandinterests(Rivers 150).

Fromtheaforementioned, theAmerican dreamis thenationalphilosophythat definesfreedomby incorporatingprospectsof personalsuccessprosperityas wellas, upwardsocialmobility,based on theindividual’sachievements,ratherthan socialclassesand/or circumstancesat birth.Thedreammajorson financialfreedomandprosperity,thatis achievablethrough adequatefinancialknowledge,availability of sufficientemploymentopportunitiesforallpeople.Additionally, thedreamis definedby achievementof personalpre-defined goals,owingto individuals’hardworkratherthan socialclassorracialaffiliation.TheAmerican dreamis alsoembeddedin thedeclarationof independencean empoweredby theAmerican constitution,henceis not a mythandis stillachievable.To attaintheAmerican dream,citizensshould definetheir personalsucceedandworktowards achievement,givenpersonalstrength,to attainmaximumresults.To attainfinancialfreedom,citizenshould acquirerequisitefinancialknowledge,investwiselyandspendresponsibly, therebyattainmentof financialprosperityas envisioned by America’s foundingfathers.
